The farmhouse is built using “earth architecture” and > 80% of the building materials are sourced from within the farm or nearby places, thereby ensuring low carbon foot print. The combination of mud walls, large spacious bedrooms, high ceiling tiled roof, cross ventilation through large windows and the adjoining open spaces ensure natural air conditioning. The bedrooms and bathrooms are equipped with modern amenities ensuring an unique stay experience that is soothing and therapeutic.

The farm is blessed with rich bio-diversity, thanks to around 80 different species of forest and fruit bearing trees, bamboo & shrubs and they are over 200 of such trees and plants giving most needed fresh air and shade throughout the year. The food forest has many medicinal plants, veggies, millets, pulses, etc from where the ingredients are sourced to prepare meals for the guests. The farm is also home to many birds, insects, reptiles and farm animals like desi cows, dogs, cats, chicken, geese and fishes.

Thanks to extended lock downs and work from home during the Covid time (2020 onwards) Shyla & Karthik have been running the farm all by themselves, and this experience has turned them into practicing farmers. Since 2023, they are developing a food forest based on natural farming techniques on a 6 acre land parcel located near Thalli, TN (2 hrs drive from Koramangala, Bengaluru). They are active members of Nesara Farmer Produce Organization (FPO) and are responsible for helping the farmer communities in devising and implementing “farm to table” business processes. Slowly but surely this effort has started to impact the livelihoods of several hundred farmers in the Thalli sub division in a positive manner.

One of the “Farm to Table” experiments by Yash Farm & Nesara FPO is the Restaurant at Yash Farm Stays. This Farm to Table Restaurant, is available for guests on pre-booking only. Shyla who is chief chef, has curated a menu of traditional Indian vegetarian cuisine dishes prepared with ingredients sourced from their farm, processed and cooked in traditional Indian methods.

In March 2024, sensing the growing need for a platform to help many more people from cities and rural places to learn and practice sustainable living, the founders of Yash Farm (Shyla & Karthik) in partnership with Nesara FPO launched the Center for Sustainable Living at their 6 acres farm near Thalli. This Farm is adjoining the North Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary / Bilakal Forest is equipped with Food forest, Goshala, Community Kitchen, Events space for training / workshops, dormitories and cottages (coming soon).

This centre is an ideal destination for people to enroll and attend residential workshops happening on a monthly basis and / or volunteer at the farm.
